Take a slow tranquil glide with me through the reeds and lily pads of the lake. It will be calm, it will be rocky, but most of all it will be an adventure.
About Me
- Alyssa Swan
- Alyssa Swan is the author of many published and unpublished works. After joining a writers' forum January 2011 she started honing her writing abilities and in August 2011 started submitting her work. Within six months she had amassed eight publications, all flash fiction pieces. Her ultimate goal is to have a chick-lit novel published before 2015. In the meantime, her published works can be found in a number of e-zines and anthologies. Alyssa is single, living in London, UK with her son and drawing unlimited inspiration from her friends, who are never short of a drama or two!

Shock Call
Okay, so it was nearing midnight here when my phone rang with an unknown number. It was an agent in LA who had seen some of my work and wanted to know if I'd be interested in being interviewed when he gets back to London... Cue shock and bewilderment :D

Grand News!
Eight shorts have been accepted and contracts completed since my last entry. The works, due for publication the latter part of 2012, will appear in two anthologies: Daily Flash and Daily Frights from Pill Hill Press. I prefer to see my work in print so these acceptances have left me beaming with pride. My accepted works tally is now seventeen in six months so I am extremely happy, as are my friends who couldn't stop telling me how brilliant I was as the news came in.
As for new work, I've only managed to write two paragraphs in two weeks. Disappointing indeed. I've managed to send out a few more submissions to off-balance my writer's block, but i secretly don't think any will be accepted. A full edit of all my works is called for I think but with school holidays I know I won't get anything done this week.

Sorry!!!
Yes I have let this blog slide, I wish I could say it is because I've been super busy, but alas I haven't. I did achieve my ninth publication though, The Visit was e-published by MicroHorror.com. The reason for my absence was a combination of lack of funds to credit my dongle, laziness and partying too hard! Sorry I will strive in future not to let things slide for a fortnight. Anyway, writing wise I haven't done a lot, I've mostly been reworking one piece to death and are now of the opinion I should conduct its funeral. While a brilliant idea, the execution leaves a lot to be desired, maybe down the track I'll try it again. I received an unexpected email from the editor from an e-publisher who I submitted work to over six months ago and had marked down as rejections. My work is still under consideration, so fingers crossed people!!!
See you next week!

Progress Halted
The week for me was filled with reconnecting with friends and letting my creative juices simmer. I managed to write a short inspired by a good friend and had an idea for another short but as yet haven't managed to get it down. I received three rejections, which while disheartening has not dented my enthusiasm to keep trying with that particular publisher. Over on my writing forum I critiqued a couple of stories, which made me feel good as I pointed out there SPaG errors and put forward suggestions for improvement.

Busy, Busy, BUSY! :D
This week I have been busy polishing, submitting and writing stories. I managed to submit four shorts; two horrors and two literary, which hopefully will be selected for e-publication. I drafted six shorts; four horrors, two literary for submission calls and posted one for critique on the writing forum I'm a member of.
I joined Twitter too! @AlyssaSwanLake
That's all for now since I am still nursing a hangover from last night!!!
See you next Sunday.

New Year, New Start!
Welcome! I'm Alyssa and after a turbulent 2011 I am hoping for a calmer 2012 where I can truly focus on the things that matter to me; family, friends and my creative works!
I will be posting a new entry every Sunday to let you know what has happened regarding my writing that week. I may on occasion choose to share snippets of my work or whole pieces for you to read and hopefully enjoy.
Well , that's all I have to say this week. Wish me well for the week ahead and thank you for joining me on my journey :-)
